What WebTrans does

This Utility reads in Logfiles from your Web-Server and displays the collected Informations in a Tree-View. The primary Attempt was to retrieve Download-Statistics for specific Files and calculate the total Bandwith used over Time.

WebTrans creates several hierarchical Views into the collected Data:

In each View invalid Requests are flagged and additional Informations are displayed.

WebTrans accepts three Types of Logfiles:

Usage

Just drop one or more Log-Files into the WebTrans Window and the File(s) are instantly parsed. The Statistics will then be displayed beyond the Results-Node.

As you can see from the above Screenshot, WebTrans uses different Icons to visualize the Results:

This Node represents a Folder in your File-Hierarchy. If this Folder contains any invalid Requests it is flagged like this:
This Node represents Requests inside a Folder. Errors requesting this file are flagged in two ways:
is used for Files, which had Errors but are transferred correctly last.
these Files had Errors during the last Requests.
The World-Node represents the Client-View. In the first Level you have a List of the Top-Level-Domains (i.e. .com, .org or .de) referring your Site.
The next Level contains the requesting Domain, deeper Levels specific Servers within that Domain. Invalid Transfers from any Domain are marked .
This Icon is used inside the World-Node and represents specific Machines.
Beyond the Machine-Node you can see, what Agent-Software runs there.
If a Machine produced errors it is flagged and you'll find more Informations there too.
In this Tree all detected User-Agents are categorized.
They represent the Software used to visit your Web-Site. Web-Browsers are mostly accumulated beyond the Mozilla-, Opera- or Lynx-Nodes. Other Entries are used from Robots and specific Download-Software (like GetRight, GoZilla, WebZip etc.).
Invalid Entries are flagged
Here you will find Sites which the User visited before looking at your Content. This Node contains Search-Queries and Hyperlinks from referring Sites. But don't worry if you find something here which do not directly Link, these Entries are also produced, when the User manually enters a URL or recalls one of his Favorites.
Right-Clicking on a Referrer opens a Context-Menu which enables you to open the URL in a Browser or copy it into the Windows-Clipboard.
Normal Referrers will be displayed with this Icon:
When a Referrer could be identifed as a Search-Engine, then it is marked with Glasses and the Query is inserted into the Queries-Tree.
The Queries-Tree contains identified Queries in alphabetical Order. Each Query contains the retrieved File, the referring URL and the requesting Client.
Beyond the WebTrans-Icon you'll find this Entry, which displays some internal Statistics for the Application.
